Are You Ready For Laser Eye Surgery?

Have you ever experienced your glasses steaming up when you’re preparing to get something out of a hot oven? Perhaps they have continually persisted in sliding down your nose at the most inconvenient moment? However annoying glasses can be at times, contact lenses aren’t much better. That is why a lot of people consider having laser eye surgery. The operation is relatively quick and because it can be done easily as an outpatient procedure, you won’t require a lot of time off work either. Of course, you will need to be prepared if you are considering having this operation. Firstly, you should be aware that if both of your eyes are in need of surgery, you are better off getting them done on different days. You could have them done both at the same time, but it is generally safer and there is less chance of any infection if you have the operation on different days. Another point to bear in mind if you wear contact lenses is to take them out a few days before you have the operation. You will of course need to see a doctor before the operation takes place, to ascertain what needs to be done and what condition your vision is currently in. Wearing contact lenses can interfere with this, which is why glasses are much better at this stage. You should also think about the practical side of having this type of eye surgery. For example, if you work every day and you rely on your car to get you there and back, will someone else be able to drive you while your eye is healing? This might sound like a strange thing to be thinking about, but it is just as important as all the other aspects of the operation. If you don’t make arrangements like this beforehand, you may be tempted to drive before you are ready to do so. Blurred vision and other symptoms are quite common, but they can continue to appear for a few months. So, make sure you know exactly what to expect and when it is likely to happen before you have the operation. You may also be advised to wear protective sunglasses any time you are exposed to sunshine. Again, being prepared for this before you have your LASIK eye surgery procedure will help you get through it much more smoothly. In the end, if you pay attention to what your ophthalmologist tells you then the recovery period will prove a lot less daunting. And after that you can look forward to much better vision than what you had before.
